New Year, New life

2011 has brought on so many changes, so suddenly. Its winding down to the end of January and I have started some changed and some changes have startled me. I suppose right now what seems to be the biggest is my mother's health. She was diagnosed on the 17th with Breast Cancer, and a few days ago confirmed that she has not only the most treatable kind but also a quickly acting kind. She has to have EKG's to see if her heart is healthy enough for the medicine, and she's not even 40 years old yet. She has to have a double mastectomy and go through chemo. Her insurance then won't cover any reconstructive plastic surgery so there is a website for people to donate to- listed below.
But I think the biggest effect this has had on my daily life is that day after she called and over the phone we looked at tons of scarves and hats on Etsy.com and she didn't like many and wanted me to make her some. I had already been thinking about making things to sell on that site. So the day after she had called I had already made her two hats, and was continuing plans for several more. And I quickly felt the ability to tackle projects and dig deep into my sewing kit.
Now I think I am going to start a legitimate business on Etsy. So I might post more about the new comings in that department of life. But also beyond that personal life changing decision, I'll write about my mother. She and I were so close and now I live so far away. (Her in Illinois and me in Atlanta. ) I wish I could be close to her again but at least I can give her some head-warmth, and self-esteem-comfort.

Poem on Early November

While hiking the hill, the horizon swells...
It deepens and widens as the tread before me shrinks,
The ground falls behind like the past.

Mountains of color encircle the edge of the sky
Trees reach shades of dying embers into the ice blue clouds,
Walking idly into autumn's allure, the hill fades from my shadow.

11 pm poem

With the taste of wine freshly on my lips,
I pop a pretzel in,
And chew it into bits.

Greek Verse

I have found a tome of Greek Verse, compiled from the Odyssey to the 1900s, the author attempted to pull one of each kind of poem as if some sort of historical arc. The early Greek period is first and you read through a descriptive, symbolic time line of ancient Greece as portrayed in their poems. The coolest part of it is the top of the page where the poem is printed in Greek, and translated to plain English below. Marty and I will read it by Nov 9th, for that is when 'tis due back.

Frigg's Dae

Today I woke up and my mom was calling me, she is planning on coming down this month for like two days to help me to get life insurance and visit college or whatever's helpful. I still need to clean but it's not my fault no one's ever -ever- cleaned this house before. I try to wash walls and nothing comes up but the surface dirt. The visible stains are beneath years of hand grime. So I think I had a mental hernia today. Waking up and being shaken into reality and thrown back into your worries and stresses is a rough way to go. I hope tomorrow doesn't suck like this did.
